Dragon (zodiac) - Chinese Astrology

Dragon (zodiac)

The twelve animals
of Chinese Astrology:

Rat Ox
Tiger Rabbit
Dragon Snake
Horse Goat
Monkey Rooster
Dog Pig
The dragon (Simplified: 龙; Traditional: 龍; Hanyu Pinyin: lóng), is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. According to Chinese folklore, each animal is associated with certain personality traits. Dragon people are considered most eccentric in the Chinese zodiac. Dragons are idealists, perfectionists, they are born thinking they are perfect and inflexible. Dragons are also aggressive and determined, going after what they want is second nature to them. There is also a five-element rotation of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, each having other specific traits.

The Dragon is also the most popular zodiac. During the Year of the Dragon, there is a noticeable rise in birthrates in China, as many parents wish to have a child whose zodiac is the Dragon.

People under the sign of Dragon are born in the years (roughly): 1892 (water), 1904 (wood), 1916 (fire), 1928 (earth), 1940 (metal), 1952 (water), 1964 (wood), 1976 (fire), 1988 (earth), 2000 (metal), 2012 (water), 2024 (wood).

Elemental Qualities:

Metal - most strong-willed, impatient, critical of others, firm in beliefs
Water - open to suggestions, more diplomatic, sometimes unrealistic
Wood - most creative, logical and reasoning, less assertive
Fire - most outgoing, perfectionist, extremely critical of others, charismatic,
Earth - most social, patient and stable, balanced and fair, bad temper if agitated

Best companions - Rat or Monkey
Worst companions - Ox, Rabbit, Dog, Dragon

Inner Animals and Secret animals

Inner Animals and Secret animals
It is common misconception that there are only the singular animal assigned by year. These yearly cycles represent what others percieve you as being, while a person might appear to be a Dragon they might actually be a Snake internally and an Ox secretively. Combined with 5 elements makes for 8640 combinations (5 elements, 12 animals, 12 months, 12 times of day) The inner animal is assigned by the month of birth. This dictates your own love life and inner persona and is critical to understand and know to properly calculate compatiblity with other signs. It may be considered what the individual wishes to become, or believes to be their true self. The secret animal is determed by exact time of birth and is your own true sign with your personality is based in. It is important to compensate for daylight savings or any clock adjustment performed by your country as it is mapped according to the sun's location and not the local time.

These are critical for the proper use of chinese astrology. Many western displays of the chinese zodiac improperly omit these critical components aswell as the elements for easier consumption and understanding. Chinese Astrology is deeply rooted in mathimatics and binary.

The Months
The Twelve animals also apply to the lunar months. The month born effects a persons inner animal as stated above.

January - Ox
February - Tiger
March - Hare
April - Dragon
May - Snake
June - Horse
July - Goat
August - Monkey
September - Rooster
November - Dog
October - Pig
December - Rat

The Hours
The Chinese zodiac is also used to label times of day, with each sign corresponding to a "large-hour" or shichen (時辰), which is a two-hour period. (24 divided by 12 animals) The large hour a person is born is their secretive animal as stated above.

The following hours are in Beijing local time (UTC+8).

23:00 - 01:00: rat
01:00 - 03:00: ox
03:00 - 05:00: tiger

Chinese Zodiac Possible Origns
The 12 Zodiac animal signs (生肖 shengxiao) are, in order, the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep (or goat), monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. There are many legends to explain the beginning of the zodiac (see Origins of the Chinese Zodiac). One of the most popular reads, in summarized form, as follows:

The rat was given the task of inviting the animals to report to the Jade Emperor to be selected for the zodiac signs. The cat was a good friend of the rat, but the rat forgot to invite him. So the cat vowed to be the rat's natural enemy for ages to come.
Another popular legend has it that a race was used to decide the animals to report to the Jade Emperor:

All the animals lined up on the bank of a river and were given the task of getting to the opposite shore. Their order in the calendar would be set by the order in which the animals managed to reach the other side. The cat wondered how he would get across if he was afraid of water. At the same time, the ox wondered how he would cross with his poor eyesight. The calculating rat suggested that he and the cat jump onto the ox's back and guide him across. The ox was steady and hard-working so that he did not notice the commotion on his back. In the meanwhile, the rat snuck up behind the unsuspecting cat and shoved him into the water. Just as the ox came ashore, the rat jumped off and finished the race first. The lazy pig came to the far shore in twelfth place. And so, the rat got the first year named after him, the ox got the second year, and the pig ended up as the last year in the cycle. The cat finished too late (thirteenth) to win any place in the calendar, and vowed to be the enemy of the rat forevermore.
Some versions of the tale say that the cattle nominated a water buffalo to represent them because he was more proficient at water. The trade was acceptable because both animals are members of the family of bovines.

Another version of the tale expands the race. The route ran through a forest, over ranges of plains and grasslands, and along a stream, before finally crossing a lake to the destination town.

Yet another variation tells of two different races. The first involved all the animals, in two divisions to avoid the fast animals dominating the top, and the top six in each division would "make the cut" for a second round, which would then determine the order of placement of the animals in the zodiac. This format is rather like the one that the National Football League uses to determine its playoff teams (six from each conference).

Interestingly, the cat—but not the rabbit—does make it into the Vietnamese Zodiac

Chinese astrology

The ancient Chinese astronomers called the five major planets by the names of the Five Elements. Venus is Metal (gold); Jupiter is Wood; Mercury is Water; Mars is Fire; Saturn is Earth. The position of the five planets, the sun, the moon, and comets in the sky, and the Chinese zodiac sign at the time a person was born determine the destiny of a person's life according to Chinese astrology. A laborious system of computing one's fate and destiny based on one's birthday and birth hours (known as 紫微斗數) is still used regularly in modern day Chinese astrology. The twenty-eight Chinese constellations (宿 xìu) are quite different from the eighty-eight Western constellations. For example, the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) is known as 斗 dǒu; the belt of Orion is known as 參 shen, or the "Happiness, Fortune, Longevity" trio of demigods. The seven northern constellations are referred to as xúanwǔ (玄武). Xuan Wu is also known as the spirit of the northern sky or the spirit of Water in Taoism belief.

In addition to astrological readings of the heavenly bodies, the stars in the sky form the basis of many fairy tales. For example, the Summer Triangle is the trio of the cowherd (Altair), the weaving maiden fairy (Vega) and the "tai bai" fairy (Deneb). The two forbidden lovers were separated by the silvery river (the Milky Way). Each year on the seventh day of the seventh month in the Chinese calendar, the birds form a bridge across the Milky Way. The cowherd carries their two sons (the two stars on each side of Altair) across the bridge to reunite with their fairy mother. The tai bai fairy acts as the chaperone of these two immortal lovers. See Qi Xi for more versions of this story.

BLACK MAGIC HISTORY
In an earlier article published in French1 we saw how the creed in the benevolent power of the State shared the nature of the superstition by which some people expect miracles from some divinity in exchange for humiliations. 2

That's the principle of black magic: to expect miracles, happiness, success, redemption from failures, etc., from external and superior entities that feed from the humiliation of those who voluntarily make sacrifices to them and who reduce unbelievers to subjection, from spirits that rejoice from one's destruction of oneself and other people, from gods that demand one's contempt for oneself and other people, from supernatural beings with unlimited powers and arbitrary desires that are not bound by any law knowable by reason but are meant to be influenced by a show of feelings from their humiliated followers. In short, this black magic consists in the irresponsible tying of one's hope of future satisfactions to the whim of external and superior intervening powers.

Now, divinities that could be corrupted by such sacrifices do not deserve being sacrificed anything whatsoever. They are abject beings against which any self-respecting human being can but revolt. Those that grovel at the feet of such divinities are slaves, swine, creatures lacking the dignity of their own free will, and who are prompt to forsake it indeed.

But such is not the only way magic can be conceived. There is another magic, white magic. Its principle is: work and strive to earn as a reward each and every blessing that one enjoys. In as much as this attitude can be explained in terms of divinities, these divinities are bound by knowable laws, and it is through from respect of these laws rather than from their whims that one seeks to obtain blessings, through hard work. In a certain way, these divinities are not supernatural beings existing above nature and free from its laws — they are the laws of nature themselves and nature itself. They do not demand adoration and submission but understanding and acceptance. They are satisfied not by the abjection of worshippers but by the raise in dignity and talent of their observers. They reward not the scared humiliation of submissive humans, but the respectful mastership of proud humans. They do not promise to believers the future grant of surreal relishes but invite the wise to reevaluate their present desires considering the constraints of reality.

These divinities are untouchable but well-meaning; they have no superiority complex, and do not demand a extensive display of groveling submission through an uninterrupted sequence of sacrifices. They offer us a non-hierarchical relationship between equals, or rather, between unequals, where matters not the appearance of periodical external shows, but the depth of a permanent internal discipline over oneself, a discipline that aims not toward debasing oneself to submit to the gods, but toward enhancing oneself to master them.

Prayer in black magic is passivity and destruction, in an attitude of humiliation and worship. Prayer in white magic is work and creation, in an attitude of determination and respect. The disciple of black magic does evil with the hope that some good will emerge out of it through a miraculous violation of the laws of nature. The disciple of white magic does good by consenting to an effort appraised as the least evil according to the laws of nature. Priests of black magic invoke authority as the source of knowledge, and claim that the ways of their gods are unfathomable to anyone but them. Priests of white magic propose conjectures that are subject to the open review of everyone's reason and experience, and gaining insight into their divinities is the very essence of their religious practice. Priests of black magic extend their cult by subjecting the infidels to their creed, by humiliating and degrading other people. Priests of white magic extend their religion by subjecting their beliefs to the criticism of other people, by freeing and bettering themselves. Believers of black magic are the slaves of their gods. Believers of white magic are the masters of their gods.

Black magic and white magic coexist in traditional and instituted religions. They are two opposite poles of behaviour between which are each of our acts. Black magic always wins in appearance3; you will always see it dominate the established institutions, glorified by formal rites and astonishing shows. But it is white magic that actually makes the world go round, even if it requires discernment to see that; it is white magic that continuously adapts to the world, from which stems all creation, that serves as the basis for civilization itself.

There is an opposition between Good and Evil, but it is not the cosmic struggle proposed by the priests of the cult of the dead; it is not a conflict between superior gods, where Good would be to submit to the god of one priest rather than to other gods. On the contrary, it is the opposition between on the one hand a culture of destruction, of humiliation and of spectacle, and on the other hand, a culture of creation, pride and work.

YEAR 2006 - ASTROLOGY Predictions

YEAR 2006 - ASTROLOGY Predictions
DISCOVER YOUR FUTURE, LOVE, FORTUNE FIND YOUR LUCKY NUMBERS

How's life going to be in the 2006? Here's a month-by-month prediction.
January 2006

It is for sure that this year occult sciences will take new dimensions and will therefore excel. The reason is Mars occupies Scorpio with Mercury and Venus - two most benefic planets. The quest to go deeper into the self will increase in mankind in general. This is further signified by Sun's position in Sagittarius and since Sun signifies soul the quest of the soul will be to gain more and more spiritual/philosophic knowledge. Saturn occupying the 4th house of the zodiac is not good for mothers in general. Jupiter in 6th House of the chart signifies karma driven with excellence but since Saturn retards Jupiter's movement by its aspect therefore the full potential and results will not be there for the mankind.

When Venus joins Sun in Sagittarius on the 5th January then the real conflict starts between the unsatisfied senses and spiritual quest. Mercury will also help the soul (Sun) to communicate the senses the rights and the wrongs. From spiritual quest now the karmic endeavor picks up the race when Sun moves to Capricorn on 15th January 2006. When Mercury & Venus join Sun in Capricorn on 27th and 29th January respectively then the physical comforts will take a toll on spiritual quest. This will be the time when people may stand against some governments or vote against them.

February 2006

Two important planets (Saturn & Jupiter) will be retrograde. While Saturn will create hue and cry in property-related trades, transportation business, the 4-wheeler and 2-wheeler industry will move slowly till 23rd March. Oil prices will come down which is peaking right now. India may get richer and may find hidden oil wells. Jupiter going retrograde will help the diplomacies to come on the front of the activities. Some countries may voice creating a powerful organization or strengthening the current set-up of UNO at the world level.

North Node being a shadow planet moving into Pisces will help the emancipation taking center stage in human life. Since it also mutually aspects the divine planet Jupiter - the religious fanatics may create tough times for general people till it occupies Pisces and aspects Jupiter. It may create some kind of mass killing event.

March 2006

Mercury moving to Pisces coinciding with Saturn occupying Gemini in retrogression will create problems in clear communication at the world level. Some kind of communicative disease may proliferate once again. Mars occupies Capricorn and thus pharmaceuticals, chemical, military and all Mars related industries would do well across the world. Venus in Pisces with North Node, Sun & Mercury mutually aspecting retrograde Jupiter and South Node would cause good time for businesses and day to day work. South Node is capable of fuelling the economies with growth and prosperity despite the retarding aspect of North Node.

April 2006

Mercury will be under direct aspect to Saturn and Jupiter that will cause some problems in the communication for sure. Necessary help will not reach to many because of such distortion. People may suffer during this phase and some disease proliferating again is strongly seen. Sun moving to Aries will be good for leaders but not very good for strategic or foreign relations of countries. Mars moving to Aquarius will give boost to the IT and BPO sectors and will get them more profitability.

May 2006

This is good time for luxuries and the industries relating to Venus beauty will shine in a great way. Mercury moving to Aries will help the governments with clear communication and understanding towards each other. Educational institutes may become the places of distress and may be under attack by the terrorists. Saturn enters Cancer on 27th May that will create confusion on children's curriculum. The revival in the educational systems can be expected during this time.

June 2006

This will be generally good time at the world level when the planets are in good position. The economies will take time to really go great guns before Jupiter moves out of two saturnine planets' (Saturn + North Node) aspect. Jupiter together with South Node creates good time for spiritual aspirators who will gain insights that will fuel their growth. Jupiter in the 6th house of zodiac is able to protect many ill conceived & ill ideas that will create mass losses.

July 2006
This may be tough time for aggressive countries or countries that proliferate terrorism. Their ill ideas will be curbed through use of power during this phase when Mars is under control of saturnine aspect. This phase may create tough times for many countries and leaders those who have such aggressive ideas. Sun may drive the property and transport related businesses that were looking for growth and newer markets.
August 2006
Mars will keep driving the businesses that it rules. Mostly pharmaceuticals, IT, chemical industries will be positively in demand. The leaders of countries and governments would remain in a happy state of affairs and public involved in their work during such time. Luxurious items will and beauty industry may foresee a small fall. This time leaders will excel across the world. There may be some kind of natural disaster across the world that my kill several people. Educational institutes may also suffer during this time.
September 2006
This would be great time when people will enjoy life. Governments and leaders will be in good shape. Jupiter the planet associated with prosperity will move out to Libra and out of the direct aspect of Saturn. Jupiter's such movement to Libra will beef-up judiciary in action. Judiciary will gain power besides the political leaders. Countries supporting terrorism will understand its side-effects now when they will such activists bleeding their own countries. IT will be in great demand and also BPO industry (after initial setbacks during the first half of the year). There will be new inventions and the quest for truth will take the divine approach. Communication will go great way now and unlike previous years there will be peace for next one year.
October 2006
This phase may give new lease of life to few leaders while some may have to leave the throne or will be thrown out of power. This will be a time when there will be big time difference between the king and his direct subordinates. Jupiter will bring a bit of saving grace for the subordinates who will come with right kind of advice and work. The general well being will remain and the good times will continue.
November 2006
Saturn again retrogrades in Cancer slowing down the educational activities. Saturn also slows down human mind when it occupies the sign of mind signification Moon. But this time Jupiter is out of its sight and intelligence and wisdom is bestowed upon the human mind. Exchange of Venus and Jupiter creates good opportunities of new learning especially the sync between spirituality and karmic life. The balance will be there at the right time.
December 2006
During the end of the year the time is right for the festive activities. Venus moving to Saturnine house will help the karmic endeavors of human beings to bestow them with luxuries of life. Saturn-Mars aspect to each other is not good for leaders. There will not be any problems though because of Jupiter's benign aspect on Aries. Sun again moves to its position at the beginning of the year which signifies good spiritual progress again. Mercury also occupies it in Sagittarius therefore clear intelligence and communication. Venus retrograding in Capricorn under direct aspect of Saturn will create less luxurious attitude towards and selfless karma to plunge into the New Year with our sinless karmic endeavor. We will then get into another New Year that will see more of karmic activity though nodes will keep creating spiritual interest in people. We will see better living conditions with less crimes and selfless missions helping and reaching out to people…
